South Korean Envoy to Visit U.S. for Trade Deal Talks, Trump Announces Tariff Hike on S. Korea Early Today
BlockBeats News, January 27, Office of the President of South Korea: South Korean Trade Representative is about to visit the United States and will meet with the U.S. Trade Representative to discuss the implementation of the trade agreement. We will express our willingness to the United States to implement the tariff agreement. (FXStreet)
Earlier today, Trump announced an increase in tariffs on South Korea: "The South Korean National Assembly has not fulfilled the agreement reached with the United States. President Moon Jae-in and I reached a mutually beneficial agreement on July 30, 2025, and reaffirmed these terms during my visit to South Korea on October 29, 2025. Why has the South Korean National Assembly still not ratified the agreement? As the South Korean National Assembly has not yet passed our historic trade deal, which is within their power, I hereby announce that I will increase the reciprocal tariffs on South Korean automobiles, lumber, pharmaceuticals, and all other goods from 15% to 25%."
